LEAF COLLECTION UPDATE
CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION BEGINS

The curbside leaf vacuum collection was completed in all areas on Friday, December 5, 2008. The curbside bagged collection program concluded on Monday, December 29, 2008.  Over 66,000 leaf bags were collected in 2008, the third highest total in the history of the program.

Residents with leaf bags remaining may bring their leaf bags to the Recycling Center located at 25 Brixton Street, weekdays only from 8 AM to 4 PM. Remember that plastic leaf bags are not recyclable, but leaves in plastic bags can be brought to the Recycling Center and dumped out in the designated area.  Please take the plastic bags with you and dispose of them with your trash.

The Recycling Center will close for the New Year holiday at noon on December 31st and will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2009.

The annual Christmas Tree Collection program will begin on Monday, January 5th.  Collection crews will make two complete passes of all residential streets, weather permitting.  All trees collected are brought to the Recycling Center on Brixton Street where they are recycled into wood chips.

Town crews plan to make their first pass beginning in the Monday and Tuesday refuse collection areas.  Residents with Christmas trees to be collected in the Monday and Tuesday refuse collection areas should get their trees to the curb by 6 AM on Monday, January 5th.   Residents must remove all lights, ornaments, tree stands and plastic bags from their trees.  Trees found with these items will not be collected.  We ask that in the event of a snowstorm that residents remove their tree from the curb to prevent the tree from becoming frozen into the snow.  Trees frozen into the snow pile cannot be collected.
